Asian Martial Arts, Inc. was developed in 1989 by Sensei Jeffrey J. Burlingame
with the idea of having multiple Asian disciplines under one roof. Currently
we offer the following: Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate, Shingitai Jujitsu, Tai Chi, Aikido,
Iaido and Kung Fu. Each of these disciplines is taught by certified and licensed
instructors.
The Seibukan School of the Shorin-Ryu style of Karate was established in
1962 by the late, great Sensei Zenryo Shimabukuro (1908-1969) of Chatan-Cho,
Okinawa. He received his training under the watchful eye of famed Sensei
Chotoku Kyan of Shuri, Okinawa. It is on this training that he based the
establishment of the Seibukan Dojo.
Since its beginning, the Seibukan Dojo has continued the legacy of the past
great Sensei by teaching the same techniques and philosophies that were
handed down to our present day instructors. This legacy is one of the
components that make our school unique from others, for there are few
schools that have remained unchanged in today’s world of commercialized
Karate.
Sensei Edward Takae (Tampa, FL) trained and studied only under Sensei
Shimabukuro and is the most senior of his students in the USA. Sensei Takae
is the recipient of the only “Shihan Menjo” (Masters License) known to have
been given by Sensei Zenryo Shimabukuro.
Today, under Sensei Takae’s guidance, we continue the unchanged, traditional
teachings of Sukunaihayashi “Shorin-Ryu” Karate.
